Well Groomed in The Jungle

Yeah, she really looks like she is roughing it!

I happened to be watching Survivor( just flipping through - not hooked this season) the other night and it occurred to me that  the women's eyebrows were perfectly shaped and groomed.  It makes one wonder how much the contestants are roughing it out there in the jungle.  Their eyebrows were perfectly waxed, they never have unsightly hair under their arms or any place else for that matter.  And the question that everyone wonders about - where do they go to go?  You have to admit though, they don't seem to be acting when they get a taste of real food, after being in the jungle for a while.

Even with reality shows, a good amount of editing is done, which makes them not so real after all.  The editing is what makes the show, as a matter of fact.  Many times when a contestant watches the entire show after the taping  they will comment on  how they were portrayed this way or that, and how a lot of the tape was not shown.  I prefer reality show any day to a sitcom or a running comedy or even a soap opera, but it seems reality shows is just another grand performance.  How many of these reality shows can you trust to be candid and entirely spontaneous?  Think about it -  when a person in a reality show enters a room and we see them entering a room or restaurant or wherever from the front, that means the camera is in that room waiting on them to enter, so it had to have been set up or planned in some way.

The phone calls are what get me.  How does the camera man know to be exactly at the place where the person is calling, if its not planned.  For instance on one of Snoop's episodes, his wife was calling Keisha Cole to discuss some singing lessons for her daughter.  So she called Keisha and we see Keisha answering the phone and the scene is going back and forth between them as they talk on the phone.  Well if it were really spontaneous reality, would the cameraman know to  be in front of Keisha just as Snoop's wife made the call???  I don't think so.  I believe most of the scenes in Reality shows are planned, but I'll take them any day over sitcoms.  There is just something about those reality shows that keep sucking us in.  By the way, how many seasons will it take for Flavor Flav to find love.  Don't answer that one!!!!  Poor Flav.
